CLASSES and WORKSHOPS IN THE FALL

Victoria College of Art: Painting level 2- Tuesdays in the Fall- 0930- 1630. This is a great studio course where you will get a full day in studio and have the week to integrate what you learn. I will be starting each class with a short lecture and there will be the usual demonstrations and explorations of theory. If you have taken beginning watercolour with me you can apply to enter this class. Students will work with paint on two-dimensional surfaces and will be asked to work with at least two media, watercolour, acrylic, oil or pastel, sometimes combining them and sometimes using they exclusively. This course begins on September 28th. Registration is through the Victoria College of Art.

Victoria College of Art: Advanced Illustration- Thursdays in the Fall- 0930- 1230. This is a continuation and expansion of topics covered in the Introduction to Illustration course offered in the Spring term. Priority will be given to students who have completed the Introduction, however if you have been juried into the Island Illustrator’s Society and want to use this course to learn more about traditional illustration, business and working with clients let me know and I can probably argue for you to be accepted. This course begins on September 30th. Registration is through the Victoria College of Art.

Saanich Silver Threads Beginner and Intermediate Watercolour: on Wednesday afternoons, September 22- November 24th, 1 pm – 3:30 pm (10 weeks). My home teaching space is still occupied, so I have approached Saanich Silver Threads about using their great, easily accessible (no stairs) workshop in the Fall. I will be teaching to all levels in this course, beginning with the basics in materials and colour for those new to watercolour, and offering more complex exercises for the intermediates so that you will review and build on your skills. Watercolour for Beginners 
 October 15-17 through UVic Continuting Studies
This course is designed to introduce you to the techniques and rewards of watercolour painting. Through individual and group instruction, along with demonstrations, your instructor will guide you through the use of basic watercolour tools and materials, and discuss colour theory, composition and design. Expect to learn a lot and have fun through still life painting, while exploring the development of your own personal style.
Friday, 7 to 9 pm; Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm; and Sunday, 1 to 5 pm. Please bring a bag lunch to Saturday's session.

Drawing for Artists in All Mediums: at the Coast Collective, November 6 and 7th. This course is for artists who find that their drawing ability is holding them back and want to gain skills in drawing and composition. We will explore drawing from this place, this is not a realistic drawing course, rather a way to use drawing as a tool for other media. Saturday and Sunday 12-4 pm.

The Next Step in Watercolour Painting 
November 19-21 through UVic Continuting Studies
This course is designed for those of you who have completed Watercolour for Beginners or a similar course with Joanne Thomson as the instructor. Expect to build on the basics of colour mixing and composition, and move toward a more individualized style of expression. There will be more "project days" for you to try out new things.
