I have been neglecting this site and I do apologize. Time has been moving very quickly. The Illustration course at the Victoria College of Art was challenging and rewarding and took up a lot of time in June. I’ll be back teaching the advanced course in the autumn. Then there was the mural, my garden and painting commitments, including the two I did for Sooke Fine Arts which got rejected- again- seems I get rejected every few years to keep my humble! At the end of June my Mother got a frightening diagnosis of inoperable cancer in her chest wall, but it turns out that it may not be all that bad. They think it is related to the breast cancer she had 35 years ago and can be treated with estrogen suppressants. Now she is on oral medications and I am in Terrace while she gets used to them and helping with her visitors from Japan. We are optimistic.
Waterview Mural Project: In July I worked with residents of the Waterview Apartments to create a mural on the wall near their new Community Garden. The project was part of an initiative through Pacifica Housing Advisory Association for people at risk and formerly homeless. The 24’ X 7’ mural depicts a farm landscape with the Olympic mountains in the background and community gardens in the foreground. It was a wonderful experience and the participants are very proud of the results (and so am I) If you are driving towards town on the Gorge you can see glimpses of it from the road. Or you are welcome to stop by and offer your praise at 246 Gorge Road at Washington.
EVENTS OVER THE SUMMER: It was nice to see some of you at the Gorge on Art and the Moss Street Paint-in in July. I meant to let you know where I was but time got away from me.
Naked in the Light: Greg Glover and I are having a great time with our photography and are branching out with ideas that can work with those who are shy about removing clothing. (though our clients tell us they feel completely comfortable!) I’ll keep you posted. We also plan to have a website up before the end of the summer to showcase some of our new works. If you are at the AGGV small works exhibition or at Sooke Harbour House, you can check them out.
