CV & EXHIBITION HX
ART INTERESTS AND THEMES
I am an artist with expanding areas of interest. I generate my income with teaching, illustration work and sale of original (and some reproduced) art work. I have always been interested in wild places and urban spaces and these are documented in my landscape paintings and temporary installation works (usually washed away with the tides). I am also interested in human interaction and my explorations of the difficulties and rewards of inter-human communication are documented visually in my “bottled” series of drawings and painting.
West Coast Landscapes- a series of watercolour paintings exploring simplification of the landscape using vibrant washes, clean lines, clear colour and skill depicting the modern Canadian landscape.
Bottled- a series of watercolour paintings in which the bottle is used as a visual metaphor for the human vessel. I explore inter-human communication by manipulating the human image and playing with colour and composition theory.
Illustration- on a variety of themes I do illustration work on a contract basis, usual subjects are food, landscape and botanical drawings.
Instruction- I teach watercolour and drawing from my home studio and through UVic and RRU extension programs, Gordon Head and Saanich Parks and Recreation.
Professional affiliations include; Island Illustrator’s Society (currently the President), Canadian Artists Representation (CARFAC) and Canadian Artist Representation Copyright Collective (CARCC), Community Arts Councils or Greater Victoria and the Saanich Peninsula.
